Endodontics discipline covers the treatment of diseases and injuries in the pulp of the tooth and the tissues surrounding the tooth, and the treatments performed to restore the form and function of this area.

 

Endodontic treatment, or root canal treatment as it is commonly known, refers to all the procedures performed to treat diseases of the pulp (vascular-nerve package) located in the tooth. With endodontic treatment, infected nerve tissue, blood vessels and other cellular debris are removed from the root canal, then the root canal cavity is cleaned and shaped by means of canal files and disinfectant solutions, and filled with tissue-friendly materials to ensure sealing (inert).

Scope of endodontic treatment; Treatment of damaged pulp (pulp lining, amputation), treatment of diseased pulp (root canal treatment), treatment of traumatized teeth (avulsion, replantation, etc.), endodontic surgery, restoration of endodontically treated teeth (post-core construction), completion of root formation or providing apical occlusion (apexogenesis and apexification), renewal of unsuccessful root canal treatments and bleaching of darkened teeth after canal treatment.
